6 Red Flags of a Language Service Provider You Should Not Ignore

Choosing the right LSP agency is probably the most critical decision for translating your global brand. The overall brand image, internationally, depends on the credibility of your language service company. That’s why it is important to hire someone who you can fully trust with your professional translations.

If you are currently having issues with translation quality, facing delays, or your translations are not resonating enough, all of these can be red flags from your LSP, which you must not ignore. In this article, we will discuss some other important red flags from your LSP that can be an indicator that you must part ways and look for a reliable partner.

Look Out for These Red Flags in Your Language Service Provider Agency

Claim To Have Expertise in All Domains

You might have heard: jack of all trades, master of none. Make sure your language service provider is not that. Most LSP claims to know it all and have the expertise to do translation in all domains and industry. If you come across such LSP, you must be suspicious about their credibility and do some research. It is always a safer option to hire someone who is an expert in their domain and has the tools and resources to effectively fulfill the project requirements related to that particular domain only.

    Traditional Methods/ Outdated Technology

We are living in 2023, where translation technology is continuously developing and companies are using advanced translation methods to cope with current-day translation demand. It is a red flag if an LSP hasn’t evolved yet, and uses those old-school and traditional ways of managing translation projects. For instance, if they don’t utilize modern tools like a simultaneous translation set, which enables real-time interpretation during live events, it could indicate a lack of investment in cutting-edge solutions and hinder the quality and efficiency of your translation projects. That’s why your LSP must keep your translation operations transparent, so you know which tools and methods they are using. Moreover, traditional translation management isn’t just time-consuming and complicated but also leads to frequent delays and mistakes in your translations.

    Requires A Lot of Editing

Do you never get the expected outcomes from your LSP, and require edits again and again? It can be a sign that your LSP is cutting corners. Have you ever inquired from your LSP about the QA processes they use to ensure the quality of your translation and what is causing these frequent quality issues? Or, maybe they are not using any manual or automated QA testing tool for your brand translation. If the quality issues are being fixed on their end, it’s time to find another translation agency.

    Poor Communication and Customer Support

The communication channels your LSP is using, and the speed of their responsiveness to your queries are also important to consider. Poor communication can lead to a lack of project understanding. If you haven’t clearly communicated your project requirements to your LSP. Moreover, you will never be able to get desired outcomes. So, if your LSP is not responding quickly to your calls and emails it is a major red flag that can have a serious impact on your project timeline and time to market the product in a foreign marketplace.

    They Are Cheap

Budget is an important thing to consider while looking for an LSP that provides the best localization solution for enterprises. If your LSP is way too cheap than other counterparts, it can be concerning. How can they afford to provide your translation services at such low rates? So, make sure the pricing is proportionate with the value your LSP is offering. If their prices are ridiculously low, it is a sign that LSP is not worth trusting. There is a high chance that you will have frequent quality issues, or they may use some open-source translation engine to generate automated translations.

    No Review Policy

What if you find an LSP providing translation services at reasonable pricing, but they have no review policy? Well, they are apparently taking zero responsibility for their translation outcomes and their impact on your brand. Definitely, it is a big no. You should never work with a language service provider agency that has a “no review” policy. Such translation agencies certainly have no accountability and can put you in great trouble, so you better avoid them in the first place.

    Final Words!

Finding the right LSP to fulfill your unique translation requirements is not an easy nut to crack. There are so many LSP options available, but you must do your research to partner with a reliable agency. Beware of the red flags mentioned in this article, because your global brand reputation and your translation projects should be in good hands.
